Hunting Packages in Argentina: What's Included and What's Extra

A hunting package in Argentina normally covers lodging, meals, drinks, guides, ground transfers from the local airport and one trophy animal, sold as a fixed number of nights. Flights, licenses, gun rental, ammunition, trophy shipping and tips are usually extra. Comparing packages line by line is the only way to know what a hunt will really cost you.

At Poitahue Hunting Ranch we get the same request every week: "Send me your packages." This guide explains how our programs are built, what is and is not included, and the questions worth asking any outfitter before you send a deposit.

How Trophy Fees and Extra Species Work

A package includes one animal. Anything beyond that is an add-on, and this is where packages from different outfitters become hard to compare.

  • Trophy class. Some programs are priced by the size of the stag. Our world class stag program covers a trophy up to 340 SCI, and larger stags are quoted on request.

  • Additional species. Water buffalo, blackbuck, fallow deer, axis deer and others can be added to any program. Each has its own fee.

  • Wingshooting sessions. Dove and pigeon shoots can be added to a big game week.

Ask for the full price list before you travel. You should know what every animal costs before you see it in your scope.

Eight Questions to Ask Before You Book Any Package

  1. Is the hunting free range or inside a fenced preserve?

  2. How many acres will I actually hunt?

  3. Is it one guide per hunter?

  4. Is the stag in the package limited by score? What happens if I take a bigger one?

  5. Which transfers are included, and from which airport?

  6. What does trophy preparation include, and who handles export?

  7. Are licenses and taxes in the price?

  8. Who will I be dealing with: the ranch owner or a booking agent?

At Poitahue the answers are short. We hunt more than 80,000 acres of free range land in La Pampa, with one guide per hunter, and you deal with the owners from the first email to the last day at the lodge.

Packages for Groups, Couples and Non-Hunters

Many of our guests come as a group of friends or with family. Non-hunting companions share the lodge, the meals and the ranch life. We can also arrange hotels and side trips in Buenos Aires or elsewhere in Argentina before or after the hunt.
